DO NOT BUY

Bought this monitor and i regret it. Have to buy another one since it does not even function like a baby monitor should. There is a horrible huming/buzzing noise if you turn the volume up. If you keep the volume low you can not hear your child even if they are screaming. When the volume is up all you hear is the noise the monitor is making itself. The only way it worked is if the volume was up all the way and my daughter was screaming her head off. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. It is a waste of money and unsafe to use with your child.

Good monitor, but with a couple of flaws and quirks

We’ve been using this monitor for almost six months now, and have on the whole been extremely satisfied with it. It has certain downsides and quirks (as noted by other reviewers), but if your usage pattern will be similar to ours this monitor should work great for you. We have the transmitter plugged in near our son’s crib and keep the receiver plugged in and sitting in a central location near where we spend most of our time. Notwithstanding the buzz/static issue, which we actually solved (see below), it’s been great. The price is hard to beat, too.

Some detailed comments:

As another reviewer noted, the battery life is poor. We got 8-10 hrs at most out of a single set of batteries – barely enough to make it through one night. So, the battery mode is great if you need to move away temporarily from a central, plugged-in location, but it’s terrible for steady use.

The flashing lights on the front of the receiver are a great feature: it makes it a *lot* easier to tell whether that noise you’re hearing is your baby or just a dog howling off in the distance or something.

I would think the vibration mode would be helpful if you end up carrying the receiver around very much, but since we’ve left it in one place, we haven’t used it very much.

The blue light on the transmitter is *fantastic*. It illuminates a corner of the room enough to change a diaper, but is dim enough not to disturb someone sleeping across the room. It is fairly bright if you bring it up close to anything, though, so you have to be somewhat careful which way it’s pointing when you turn it on.

The sound quality is excellent. We found that the buzzing reported by all of those 1-star reviewers is caused by having other power adapters (cell phone chargers, video game chargers, power cords for cordless telephones, etc.) plugged in near the receiver. Every time we’ve had static/buzzing and I’ve unplugged a nearby charger, the sound has vanished completely.

If not for the restricted range from having to keep the receiver plugged in, I’d've given it 5 stars.

Great Deal, Great Monitor

I had two concerns when purchasing this baby monitor. I was worried that the rather bright night light in my daughter’s room would obscure the ability of the night vision monitor, and I was also worried that the price was lowered because they had found this to be an inferior product. Neither of these has been a problem. I did notice the “cheap plastic feeling” of the casing that other people mentioned in their reviews, but for one third the normal price on Amazon, I was more than willing to look past this. I’m interested to see how long it holds up. I’ve only had this product for a short while, but I’m moving the monitor around a lot already- we’ll see how long the clip lasts. As for the night vision, it seems to be a transitional night vision, allowing anything in the light to remain bright, without obscuring the night vision’s ability to clearly make out everything in its view.

The ONE thing I would change would be the beep that happens every time the monitor goes to sleep (after a period of inactivity from the camera view). Even this can be tamed, however, by lowering the over-all volume.

Things I LOVE about this monitor:
-Clear view day and night
-Clear audio
-NO INTERFERENCE
-Private channel
- Battery-saving Auto “Sleep” with inactivity

Things I’m not keen on:
-Battery is not a standard size but a camera battery

I’ve only ever used an audio monitor, but I took a chance on this. I fell in love with it the minute it was hooked up.

Oh, and if you think the viewer’s not working when you first set it up, try taking the small lens cover off the camera… LOL.

Excellent digital monitor for the money

I decided on another video baby monitor as I am expecting a third child. I used to own a summer infant video monitor that I bought from babies r us but it broke down after my 3 year old decided to throw the monitor into the sink. I was not prepared to pay another 200 dollars so I shopped online for alternatives. I got this on amazon (because of the price) and this product is great. I was prepared to return it if it was crap, (which cheap products are usually online…)
Pros: The VOX setting activates only when it registers loud noises (like cries) and it doesn’t inadvertently turn on due to loud traffic noises (unlike my old baby monitor).
price, the price is unbelievable for a monitor with video, and static-free
video and audio quality – I can not complain. It is far better than my old monitor.
interference – it works fine with our wifi and 2.4ghz cell phone
presentation – comes in nice gift box and cute design
range – I can leave the camera in the nursery and be in the kitchen (around 300 feet away) and I still get reception
no background noise – the monitor cuts the background noise when there is no sound and becomes totally quiet. My old unit always had this constant clicking sound even when it was dead quiet.

Cons: the material falls below what I wanted, but for the price it makes up for everything. It’s uses a light weight plastic material which is good and bad because it is nearly weightless when you strap this on your waist when you are moving around in the house.
features – I wished for a pan and tilt camera but this doesn’t have it.

Verdict; if you are looking for something that works well and doesn’t give you any problems, this is it. if you are looking for a high-tech baby monitor, this isn’t what you are looking for. This is like a Honda – always works, does what it is designed to do very well, great specs and features, good price but lacks the solid feel, and the extra niff-naff ‘nice to have’ features that a mercedes-benz has.
4 star for the product itself compared to other video monitors in the market
5 star for what you get for the money.

Best baby monitor of all

I reviewed just about every baby monitor that is out there for weeks and there were lot of expensive ones and some not so expensive. When I bought this monitor it was on sale for $99.98 and I got lucky because price went up very next week to regular $299.98. I cannot say anything bad about this monitor. We have been using it for about 3 weeks and it is great. Very light wt and easy to carry. My wife does a lot of computer work since she has become a stay at home mom and she watches our little one all the time when he is asleep.
Pros: Excellent night vision picture quality and color picture rest of the time
Very light wt.
Easy to mount and sync both unit
Option to add 3 more cameras and can be controlled with one monitor
Very good color of light blue as it works great for our baby boy
Awesome price of $99.98 (when it is on sale)
excellent sound quality
Auto standby mode for monitor and is sound detector activated so if baby makes a little sound monitor comes on.
monitor battery last all day if left on.

Cons: Do not forget to take lens cover off as of my wife and lots of other people said that they thought camera is not working.

Overall great product and great customer service as my wife called them that camera is not working since she forgot to take lens cover off and customer service called us back the next day on Sunday to help us out.

King of All Monitors!!

This was the third monitor I bought for our second child. Don’t waste your time trying the least expensive ones like I did, this one is worth the money. I have the Super Clear Double Receiver by Safety 1st in my 2 year old’s room, which works perfect. I needed a second one for my newborn. I tried another Safety 1st, and even with 2 channels, I could only pick up sound from one room. Then I returned it for a Sound N Lights monitor by Fisher-Price. Bigger mistake, we couldn’t hear any room, only major static. Finally we tried this one and love it!!! It is so quiet, except, of course, when your baby makes noise. I can’t believe how many channel options it has, and other features too, like an alarm when you are almost out of range. Also, a rechargable battery, that charges when plugged in, so you don’t have to waste your own batteries when wanting to use it outside. Go for the Gold, this Sony is the best yet.

You get what you pay for! This is a great product!

It’s interesting that I am writing the first review of a great Sony product. When we purchased this from a local [store], it was the last one on the shelf. This must be a popular product, but I guess if it works, people don’t feel compelled to write good things about it.

With that said, my husband and I are very, very satisfied with the Baby Call Nursery Monitor (27 channel) from Sony. But we didn’t choose it first. When our old Sony Baby Call (a hand-me-down from a relative) died on us after having it for about 7 years and using it with our oldest son, packing it away and unpacking it for about 6 more months of use with our newborn son, we were on the hunt for a replacement.

I was at [a store]and picked up the Fisher-Price Sound N Lights With Dual Receivers. It was a less expensive model, there was a whole wall of them at the store, and we were interested in a 2-receiver system because we have a two-story home. We figured it had to be a decent product – especially since it has received above average reviews from Amazon.com reviewers. Well as soon as we plugged it in, all we got was static. Oh sure, we could hear our son crying if we had it cranked all the way to maximum volume, but the additional static noise was incredibly annoying, especially when it’s sitting on the night table next to your head and you’re trying to find some precious hours of sleep. Also, after one night of use, one receiver’s 9-volt battery had been completely depleted – after just one night! What a joke! It was no Sony! So we were on the hunt again.

What we determined (a little too late…we should have done our research before we purchased the first time), was that we were looking for was a product that worked on a 900 MHz signal for greater noise reduction, a sensitive transmitter that would allow us to hear the baby’s breathing, a longer battery life, and a 2-reciever system. What’s surprising is that there is very little on the market that meets each of these basic feature needs. We did find the First Years Peace of Mind – Two Receiver Monitor, but it didn’t get great reviews at Amazon.com. And there were too many left on the shelf when compared to the Sony, which, like I said above, only one was left on the shelf of our local store.

So we decided that we needed to remain Sony customers in this market because of our previous great experience and Sony’s reputation. But with that, we sacrificed the 2-monitor feature. Oh well. A little more hauling of the monitor certainly is a sacrifice worth making when you get all of the other critical features – and more. The Baby Call Nursery Monitor (27 channel) is ultra quiet. This is great considering all of the 900 MHz telephones we have, the wireless network in the home, and other radio signals, etc. This product cuts out the CD player in the nursery which plays quiet, soothing music while our son sleeps, and brings his breathing and movements to fore. This is excellent. Just what we wanted and expected from Sony. This product also has a rechargeable battery with an expected 19-hour life on one charge. This is great. When I need to move into other rooms for a few hours during the day, I won’t need to worry about the battery. Plug it in at night to recharge the battery and you don’t burn through and waste batteries unnecessarily.

The signal strength is great too. We have a large 2-story home and the nursery is upstairs and about 100 linear feet from where I spend much of my day downstairs in the kitchen/family room area. We hear him no problem.

There are plenty of other great features – you can set your own frequency signal (you have 27 to choose from), you can wall mount the transmitter or the receiver, the monitor has a belt clip and an out of range alert, the receiver is water-resistant (great for having next to the kitchen sink) and much more that we’re still discovering. Overall, we’re very pleased and wish we had purchased this to begin with. It was more expensive…, but you get what you pay for. Well, the baby is waking up – I hear him clear as a bell making his soft, pre-waking whimpering sounds. Gotta go!

Best monitor on the market but can be even better!

Advantages:
1) Super clear compared to most nursery monitors on the market. There is little to no static or “white” noise in the background.
2) There are two “on” settings. One is the regular stay on all the time setting and there is the voice activated setting. It also has a light monitor that lights up according to the intensity of the sound (i.e., baby crying).
3) Water resistant so that you can place this receiver in damp rooms such as a bathroom or a laundry room. (Note: it’s water resistant but not WATERPROOF. In other words, you shouldn’t take it into the shower or bath with you.)
4) In addition to an external DC supply, it comes with a 2.4V rechargable battery supply.
5) It has up to 27 potential channels to choose from and is 900 MHz.

Disadvantages:
1) There is only ONE receiver.
2) It is bulky.
3) It is difficult to see the control settings on the side (i.e., OFF, ON, VOICE ACT) and can easily be in the off position instead of on.

Improvement suggestions for Sony:
1) A 2.4GHz monitor would be great for more range and potentially greater clarity. I think people would be willing to pay a little extra for this considering this current product is wonderful already.
2) Two receivers would be wonderful and convenient. Again, I think people would be willing to pay for the extra receiver.
3) You could slim it down a bit or change the design to something a little more ergonomic.
4) The three indicators at the bottom of the face of the receiver is not necessary since there are indicators at the very bottom of the receiver for the selection of channels. I don’t think we need to see what channel selection we have made but rather, I would like to see color lights there instead to show that it is either off, on or on voice activation since it is difficult to see what setting we are on.

Conclusion: I wouldn’t trade this monitor in for any other one in the market. I have tried many other nursery monitors and they were dismal failures. Sony can make a few improvements to make this monitor even better!

Very happy with this monitor

We’ve been using this monitor now for nearly 4 weeks. I looked at many different monitors but was impressed both by the fact that Motorola makes the device (a leader in wireless communication technology) and by the strong night light functionality. The 3.5 inch screen version was not then available on Amazon so we decided to buy this version. The only difference between the two is $50, a slightly larger screen and the ability to zoom in from the remote. The bigger screen would be nice but we’ve found the 2.8 inch to be more than adequate. Like us, I think most people just want to have a quick look to see what their child is doing generally, and don’t need to zoom in to just see their face for example.

In summary:
Video quality is outstanding, both in night mode (B&W) and day (color) modes.
No interference problems so far and we live in a large apartment building.
The sound sensitivity is excellent and volume is adjustable – we find about 1/2 way to max setting is plenty loud.
The remote temperature sensor is nice to have and is accurate
Battery life is good, but will not last all day unplugged especially if you are watching a lot of video.
Both camera and parent unit appear to be well-built.

Another small plus is the chargers are multi-voltage capable so can be used when traveling to Europe/Asia (just need plug adapter). I highly recommend this product to people who are looking for a video monitor.

**Update 12/21/2011**
Nearly 4 months on and we still love this monitor. A few additional comments:

As other reviewers have noted there is a zoom function. 1X and 2X. I don’t want to say it is useless but we have never used it (essentially digitally magnifies picture). However it is there if you want/need it.

We replaced our wireless Belkin N+ router with a more powerful Asus dual band router. Since this time we have had, what appears to be, occasional interference. This only happens when the router is directly between the camera and parent unit. It is minor and has not diminished our use of the monitor. We’ve already bought one as a present for a family member, who also very happy with it.

**Update 04/10/2012**
We recently purchased an additional camera from Amazon and this has worked out great. It is very easy on the parent unit to either set it to switch back and forth automatically every 10-12 seconds or so or to simply switch manually if you like. For this you do not need to keep going back to the menu but rather you only need to double click the ‘ok’ button and it will then switch to the other camera.

Great monitor, great buy for the money!

With 3 kids, I have gone through and looked at a lot of baby monitors. This is the first video baby monitor that I have seen that is worth the money. It is super-easy to set up, the quality of the picture is excellent, quality of the sound is great, and it has great features. The night vision works really well and your view of your baby is not at all compromised even in a completely dark room. The temp sensor is really helpful, as is the two-way voice communication feature. The parent hand-held monitor is a fun gadget and I have honestly used it wireless more than I have had it plugged in and the battery life is great. The picture or sound is not compromised. The only reason I did not give it a full 5 star rating is because I don’t like that you can’t completely turn the sound off on the parent monitor. Although there are 8 volume levels, there is no option to totally turn the sound all the way down. So, for example, when my little guy is fussing for a while right when I put him down for a nap, I either have to listen to him cry and fuss or I have to turn the monitor completely off. I can’t simply have the video and digital volume indicator on to allow me to monitor him, but I have to have the sound on as well. That’s the only negative thing I have to say about the monitor and I hope this is something they can easily improve upon for the next model. But, in total, I would absolutely recommend this monitor. It’s worth the money compared to others and it does the job very well. 4.5 out of 5 from me!

Super monitor

Just received this monitor today and I love it!! I used a less expensive one by motorola and it really is worth it to upgrade. Night vision is excellent! The color day image is great and not at all grainy. Sound is great. No static. Parent features are fun and temperature reading will be great during winter when I worry if she is too cold. The only useless feature (for us) I can see is the alarm function. You can set the parent unit for 2,4, or 6 hours…I assume this is if you need to be reminded about feedings or if you want to schedule naps??? You can zoom from the parent unit but it basically just expands the screen to middle part of the viewing area since you can’t pan or tilt from this unit (you can do this on the 3.5 screen for more $$). Still a pretty cool feature depending on where you mount your cam. Still testing the battery life….will update but I am expecting no problems. I also LOVE that you can turn the video off and just have audio. At night I don’t enjoy having the “tv” effect in my room. I’d rather just turn it on when I hear her. Overall very happy.

UPDATE: battery life is AWESOME. i have had if off the charger more than on. the screen shuts off to conserve power but you just have to hit a button to bring it back up.

Long-time user

We received a Tripp Trapp chair 25 years ago when my daughter was a toddler struggling to reach the table, sink, and anything else high up. Over the course of the years we bought another one for a subsequent child, used them at the dining table, let the kids work at the sink, adjusted them to adult seating as they grew, etc.

Now my grandchildren are arriving, and they sit in their parents’ old chairs (which still look beautiful) when they visit, and use new ones in their own home. The chairs are sturdy, comfortable, adjustable, and long-lived. Yes, they cost money, but this is a case of investing in something of high quality which will last for many years. Buying one of these early on will avoid the need to invest in other seating devices which don’t last nearly as well, thus needing replacement.

My Stokke baby rail broke

My Stokke baby rail broke. Please be aware before purchasing this high chair, that there are safer (and less-expensive) options out there. I thought I was giving my daughter the best by purchasing a “top-of-the-line” high chair, but I was really putting her in danger.

The flimsy, plastic baby rail which attaches to the seat of the chair via a think clip broke in half when my infant daughter leaned forward in the chair. My daughter then tumbled forward, hitting her head on the table in front of her and getting caught up in the harness. I do not think the baby rail was manufactured with the safety of children in mind, and I want to warn other parents before they make the same mistake.

Despite repeatedly calling and even sending pictures of the defective product, the company has refused to refund my purchase. When I called, the customer service representative mentioned that they have seen this happen on numerous occasions. So, why is this product still on the market?!

My anger regarding my child’s fall as a result of this poorly-designed product and Stokke’s complete disregard for the safety of the children it sells to has prompted me to write this review and warn others of the danger of the plastic baby rail that accompanies the Stokke high chair.

i have 2 of these. not for kids under 2 yrs

I have 2 children 2 years apart. i bought one chair when my oldest was 2 1/2-ish and I needed the highchair he was still using for my then nine month old daughter. i have a small home and only enough space for a breakfast table. i needed the extra chairs for guests. so it was worth it to me to buy an additional chair for my child. also i read one reviewer who said that kids will sqirm less and be interested in their food if the chair they sit it fits them well. i think that is true. my kids are now 6 and four each of them has a chair that fits them well AND that they have always been able to climb into and out of themselves. I think this is important for their sense of self reliance. The chairs are durable and look brand new still.

I have two complaints and they are small (and this is why fours stars instead of five): 1) the sticker on the back with the warnings is ugly and has to be removed with goo gone takes a good half hour. 2) the straps never worked right, i never used them and eventually took them off. I could not adjust them properly and the kids would struggle to get out for only the reason that they felt confined. both of my kids have fallen out of their seats without injury- i believe this is part of childhood and they learn very quickly to sit properly. the seat itself has never toppled- EVER.

because i found the straps useless i recommend that you not use this seat until the child is able to climb up on his or her own. like at age 2 or more. these chairs are pricy but the cost of replacing our nice dining chair (which is part of a matched set) after it is scratched/stained from having a booster seat attached to it is probably comprable.

My advice is this: spend your money on the items that you use everyday- seats like these, rockingchairs/furnishings, quality cribs and sheets, quality adaptive equipement like stools and toilet inserts. get things that will hold up and feel secure for children to use. the added benefit is that when you are done with them and have enjoyed using them they have life left in them and you can sell them for a fair price at your next garage sale etc.

ps. I don’t have the cushions. just one more thing to wash. i don’t feel they are necessary for comfort or anything.
